Why we started this
Scams got a lot better over the last few years. Not because the people running them got smarter, but because the software did. Anyone can clone a voice now. Anyone can put up a page that looks exactly like your bank.
If you work in tech, you saw it coming. Most people didn't. They just started getting calls that sound real and messages that look right, and nobody ever sat them down and explained what changed.
We were the friends people sent these things to. A parent forwarding a text just to be sure. An aunt calling about a ‘grandson’ who suddenly needs money wired. We’d explain what gave it away, and a month later there’d be a new one, dressed a little nicer.
It worked, but only for the handful of people who happened to know us. Everyone else’s mom is on her own.
